"LIFE SHRINKS OR EXPANDS IN PROPORTION TO ONE'S COURAGE"
(ANAÏS NIN)

Why would anyone want to leave the relative seclusion of Exmoor, with moorland and coastal scenery, quiet villages and active communities, to go and live half-way round the world on a continent of extremes? Well this is what we, Jacqui and David Price, set out to do as part of our retirement plan. After many years of teaching, followed by 8 years of running our own very successful small business in and around Dulverton, we decided to grab life by the scruff of the neck and do something almost as extreme as Australia itself.

Holidays visiting family and friends in New South Wales, Sydney and Canberra, plus the bonus of finding old friends - now in Brisbane, motivated the move. The outdoor life, the warm predictable climate, the whole lifestyle and the wonderful open spaces, created the dream of a different future. Transferring the dream into reality proved to be far from easy. The whole process, started in mid-February 2004, but was not completed until Monday 21st June 2005, when we flew from London Heathrow to Sydney with one-way tickets.

Why "KANGAROO PAW and PELICAN"?
Website names and email addresses are memorable either by ease, distinctiveness or oddity. The Kangaroo Paw is one Jacqui's favourite Australian Plants and the Pelican is David's favourite Australian Bird.

We have opened this website to share our experiences with anyone who would like to have a look at what we have achieved and are doing now.
